Kerry Washington to Receive Inspiration Award

Kerry Washington is set be honoured with the Actors Inspiration Award from officials at the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.

The Scandal actress will follow in the footsteps of Sofia Vergara and Leonardo DiCaprio when she receives the third ever Inspiration Award on 13 June (16) in honour of her charity work.

“Kerry’s continuous support for our programs and her fellow actors, and her dedication to countless social and political causes exemplify the essence of this award,” Foundation President JoBeth Williams said.

The 39-year-old has been an outspoken civil rights campaigner and recently starred in the #IAmAnImmigrant video and social media campaign alongside stars including Lupita Nyong’o and Rosario Dawson to celebrate diversity.

She has also worked with U.S. President Barack Obama on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities in 2009 and received the President’s Award from NAACP officials for her humanitarian work. Kerry works with many charities, including V-Day, a global movement to end violence towards women and girls.

Kerry will be presented with the prize at the Foundation’s 7th Annual Los Angeles Golf Classic.

Kerry and husband Nnamdi Asomugha are expecting a sibling for her two-year-old daughter Isabelle. She didn’t announce the pregnancy herself, but confirmed reports by showing off her bump at the Met Ball in May (16).

She is currently on a social media break. She explained to followers, “Feeling called to be a bit more quiet and still. Not sure how long it’ll last but don’t worry, I’ll be back soon enough… This space has become such a community. I’m very grateful. Thank you.”

She broke her silence to tweet pictures from Jennifer Lopez’s Las Vegas residency and honour the U.S. military on Memorial Day (30May16) before she logged off once again.
